The car’s windshield is one part of its exterior that is more prone to damage and more durable than other parts. However, suffice to say, windshields need replacement from time to time and these windshield replacement costs can pile up if damaged windshields are not repaired or replaced properly on time. There are a number of signs which can indicate if the windshield has been installed improperly and one needs to be on the lookout for them to prevent further damage.
One person for the job: The problem starts with the amount of workforce dedicated to the replacement job. If there was only one person appointed for the job, then the replacement mustn’t have been proper because at least two experienced technicians are required to do the job correctly.
Water seeps in: Often, car owners skip checking windshield glass for water leakage. If you find water seeping in from the windshield while driving in the rain, it is a clear indicator that the new windshield has not been installed properly.
Strange noise at higher speeds: A common sign of incorrectly placed windshield is a “whooshing” or similar noise at high speeds. This sound is made because of air entering through gaps and crevices in places where the windshield was incorrectly placed. The noise made is usually very low and can be overshadowed by the sound of the radio.
Glass is visibly wavy: When you look at the car’s windshield in broad sunlight, a properly installed glass will look smooth and consistent. However, if the glass used was of low quality, you will be able to notice bumps and an uneven surface. This just shows that you’ll now have to invest much more in window glass repair in case the glass was properly installed the first place.
Driving the car shortly after installation: The windshield’s adhesives need time to dry off and stick properly. Driving immediately after the installation can weaken the hold between the windshield and the frame, thus leading to improper installation.
Windshield replacement is an added cost which most drivers would want to avoid. However, that doesn’t mean that when the need does arise for the windshield to be changed, money is invested in a low-quality product or ineffective replacement services as it will ultimately increase the overall cost in the long run.
